Who are Architects?

 Architects are basically designers who design layouts for buildings and spaces. They are mostly involved in the construction industries. Architects must design their layout according to their client’s preferences and also visit the field to keep track of progress.

What are the eligibility criteria for a Bachelors degree in Architecture(B.Arch)?

The basic education requirement for B.Arch is Higher Secondary Education(10+2) in Science Stream (with PCM) securing a minimum of 50% marks. In addition to this the candidate must also clear the entrance exam i.e., National Aptitude Test in Architecture(NATA) along with respective State level exams for Architecture. They can even give the JEE Mains.

What are the educational requirements for becoming an Architect?

Basic qualification required at UG level is a minimum 50% marks in Science steam(10+2) along with NATA scores and respective State level or Institutional Entrance exams.

After B.Arch one can go on to pursue a Masters of Architecture(M.Arch). The eligibility for it is scoring minimum aggregate marks of 50% in B.Arch form a recognised institution.  

To add further to your degree one can also take Ph.D in Architecture.

What are the eligibility criteria for the NATA exam of Architecture?

Candidates must have completed 10+2 in Science stream with minimum aggregate marks of 50% and also score aggregate of 50% in PCM.

It is compulsory to have Mathematics as a subject in 10+2.

Percentage scored in 10+2 will not be rounded off. For example, 49.9% will be considered as 49.9% only and not 50%.

NATA 2020 score will be valid for 12 months from the date of the exam.

Can a Commerce stream student apply for NATA exam of Architecture?

No, unfortunately only candidates of Science Stream(10+2) with PCM can only apply for NATA.

What is the education qualification required for M.Arch?

For admission in M.Arch one needs to have a graduate degree along with various entrance tests required by the particular institution.

What is the entrance exam for Bachelors in Architecture(B.Arch)?

The common entrance exam is called NATA(National Aptitude Test in Architecture). Along with this candidate may even have to give the respective State level exam and  entrance exams conducted by institutes, if any.

Are there any entrance exams for Masters in Architecture?

Yes, there are various entrance exams that are required to be given in order to do Masters in Architecture at a particular institution. The most common entrance exams are GATE, CEED, CUCET,etc.

NATA includes subjects of General Aptitude, Mathematics and Drawing test.

For the year 2019 the minimum cut-off for NATA was 40%.

What is the cut-off for GATE (Architecture)?

The cut-off for GATE(AR) depends upon the no. of candidates for that particular year and also on the no. of seats available. The cut-off for the year 2019 was 41 for General category, 36.9 for OBC category and 27.3 for SC/ST/PwD.
