What is the educational qualification required to join the NDA?

The minimum qualification required to join the NDA is 10+2 education or any other equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.

What is the eligibility criteria required to give the NDA exam?

i) Age criteria : 16 ½ to 19½ yrs as on the first day of the month in which course is due to begin.

ii) Education qualification : Minimum qualification required is 10+2 in any stream for the Army. Candidates must have Mathematics and Physics as their compulsory subjects in 10+2 for Air Force or Navy.

iii) Candidate must be unmarried.

What is the eligibility for Air Force at NDA?

i. Age Limit- 16 to 19 years for males and 19-23 years for females.

ii. Should be of the Indian Nationality.

iii. Gender - both male and females are applicable (unmarried)

iv. One should have completed their 10+2 with PCM.

The candidate must give the NDA exam along with Pilot Aptitude Battery Test, Medical Test, IQ Test and other requirements.

What is the eligibility for Navy at NDA?

i. Age Limit- 16 to 19 years

ii. Should be of the Indian Nationality.

iii. Gender - only males applicable (unmarried)

iv. One should have completed their 10+2 with PCM. 

What is the eligibility for Army wing at NDA?

i. Age Limit- 16 to 19 years

ii. Should be of the Indian Nationality.

iii. Gender - only males applicable (unmarried)

iv. One should have completed their 10+2 in any stream.

Can women join the NDA?

No, women are not eligible to give the NDA Examination. However, women can join the IAF wing of the NDA after graduation through various Defence Exams.

Can one join the NDA after 12th?

Yes, you can (only males). Male aspirants can join the NDA through the entrance exam conducted by UPSC.

What are the physical standards required to join the NDA?

The list of physical standards may vary depending on the wing the aspirant wants to join (Army, Navy or Air Force). Some of the common physical standards are as follows:

i) One must be in good physical and mental health.

ii) The applicants chest should be well developed.

iii) There should be no illness related to bones or joints.

iv) There are definitive standards for men and women with different height and weight.

v) There should not be any past history of illness related to eyes, ear, throat or nose.

vi) Any sign of functional or organic disease of the heart and blood vessels should not be present.

vii) A urine test will be taken and any abnormality in the result will lead to rejection.

viii) No skin related disease should be present.

Is there any entrance exam to join the National Defence Academy ?

Yes, there is an entrance exam conducted to join the NDA.

What is the entrance exam for NDA?

Candidate must give the NDA Exam conducted by UPSC to get into any wing of the National Defence Academy.

What is the syllabus for NDA?

The NDA Entrance Examination conducts two written examinations of Mathematics and  GAT.

i) Paper I- Mathematics (Maximum 300 marks)

It consists of topics related to Algebra, Matrices and Determinants, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry of two and three dimensions, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus and Differential Equations, Vector Algebra, Statistics and Probability

ii) Paper II- GAT (Maximum 600 marks) This part of examination is further divided into two parts:

a) PART A - English (Maximum 200 marks). This is to test the candidate's English proficiency and vocabulary.

b) PART B - General Ability Test .

Section A - Physics. ( approx. 25% weightage)

Section B - Chemistry. (approx. 15% weightage)

Section C - General Science. (approx. 10% weightage)

Section D - History. (approx. 20% weightage)

Section E - Geography. (approx. 20% weightage)

Section F - Current Events. (approx. 10% weightage)

* the weightage carried by each section of PART B is the percentage of marks held by that particular section to the total maximum marks assigned to PART B.

What is the paper pattern for the NDA Exam?

i) It is pen and paper based.

ii) Questions asked would be objective type.

iii) Duration: Paper 1 - 2.5 hours

                      Paper 2 - 2.5 hours

iv) Marks: Paper 1 is tested for 300 marks and Paper 2 for 600 marks.

v) There is negative marking.

What are the selection criteria for the IAF NDA exam of the IAF?

The selection is merit based. The cut-off for the written test varies between 340-360 marks whereas the total cut-off could go till 700-720 as of year 2019.

What is the fee for the NDA exam?

The initial fee for the National Defence Academy Examination is Rs.100/- (as of 2020).
